Are you tired of seeing your hair thinning and receding? If so, you're not alone. Hair loss affects millions of people worldwide, and it can be a source of frustration and self-esteem issues. Thankfully, there's a promising solution that's gaining popularity in the world of hair restoration: microneedling. In this blog post, we'll explore the incredible benefits of microneedling for hair loss and why it's becoming a go-to treatment for those looking to restore their luscious locks.

Understanding Microneedling

Before we dive into the benefits, let's first understand what microneedling is. Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny, controlled injuries stimulate the body's natural healing processes, resulting in increased collagen and elastin production. While microneedling has been primarily associated with skin rejuvenation, it has recently gained recognition for its effectiveness in promoting hair growth.

The Benefits of Microneedling for Hair Loss

1.Enhanced Absorption of Topical Treatments

Many individuals use topical hair growth treatments, such as minoxidil or hair growth serums. Microneedling can significantly enhance the effectiveness of these products. The micro-injuries created by the needles create channels that allow these treatments to penetrate deeper into the skin, reaching the hair follicles more effectively.

2.Improved Blood Circulation

One of the primary reasons for hair loss is poor blood circulation in the scalp. Microneedling helps address this issue by increasing blood flow to the hair follicles. When the tiny needles create micro-injuries, they stimulate the production of new blood vessels, delivering essential nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles. This improved circulation nourishes the hair and promotes healthy growth.

3.Increased Collagen and Elastin Production

Microneedling stimulates the body to produce more collagen and elastin, which are essential proteins for healthy, strong hair. Collagen provides structural support to the hair, while elastin gives it elasticity and resilience. The boost in collagen and elastin production can help revitalize damaged hair follicles and promote thicker, healthier hair growth.

4.Reduction in DHT Production

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a hormone that plays a significant role in male and female pattern baldness. Excessive DHT production can shrink hair follicles, leading to hair thinning and loss. Microneedling may help reduce the production of DHT, which can slow down or even reverse the effects of hair loss.

This study, published in 2021, featured 1127 subjects on the effective of microneedling for hair loss. The studies used several different methods and variabilities of testing the effective of hair loss treatments, such as automated microneedle pens, derma rollers, different needle depths, different topical solutions etc. The results of the study found that the groups who received a minimum of once weekly microneedling sessions had substantial improvement in hair regrowth when compared with the placebo groups not receiving any form of microneedling treatment.

Another study published in July 2022 examined the effects of weekly microneedling sessions at a needle depth of 1.5mm, alongside the use of topical minoxidil 5%. Both studies have found that patient groups receiving a combination of scalp microneedling and topical minoxidil 5% solution showed significantly improved results over the groups only using topical minoxidil.
